My automatic response would be "shitloads", the sensible answer is "how many rounds do you think we'll need for the scenario?"

Did you manage to sort out the size of pyro for the hardware? Also, what sort of size are the finished articles for the mortars you've fabricated? It'd be good to know how portable they are.

OK, so if the Germans are punting off on the first day - could just as easily be smokes as bangs since it is not part of action to kill enemy. No allied use of mortar in day one.
Day two, German mortar still punting off until attacked. If mortar is relocated before allied assault begins then there is an opportunity to use it defensively, otherwise no further use.
Allied assault will use mortar.

How does 15 smokes (Germans - day one), 20 bangs (Germans - day two), 50 bangs (Allies - day two) sound? That's 85 rounds total - can't remember how much they are!

Smokes, don't know cost.

Thermo mortars: £2.75 each I think.

85 x £3 is £255 - its going to be a £300 pyro bill. Is that OK?

I'll check that price....

My bad. Prices are:

Mortar Smokes: £2.95 ea
Mortar Thermos: £1.75 ea

That's £195.93 inc vat.

Will we need to get any thrown pyro for drop canisters for Jeds? Chommers, you already have some stored don't you?

To re-cap: Both the smokes and thermos are the same size with an external diameter or 44mm.

Electric maroons for Jed's and SAS - I have 3 x 10g. These will be too big for ambush detonation so could do with something no pokier than Mk9 bang

Why not just use Mk9s? Much easier to administer and use.

I think 5" napthas are about £5.

Ah, that's pretty cheap for the mortar rounds then!

Yes, I have thermobarics for thrown pyro if you want to put them in the drops.

Thrown Mk9s aren't much good for an ambush - remotely triggered charge from hidden vantage point is much more fun (tree across a road is being cleared away by jerry - boom!) - it will give SAS something to do - plan, lay wires, lay in wait, execute.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood what they were for.

I lost mine in the woods! Hehe, others did too. Yanks refused to fill those remaining though, Yith and Carly ended up scooping up some leaves to fill them - to no purpose as they hadn't thought WHY players would need to fill them to benefit the scenario.

We do need a whole pile of them though if Germans are to construct a MG nest.

Well, well, looks like the Germans will have transport after all. Dave B has just bought a covered jerry truck - road legal four wheel drive thing, can carry six in the back (sorry, I didn't ask what type it was). SAS will have fun ambushing that!

Good stuff. Now, the German QRF won't have to run!

Ah, that's good. 50 would be sufficient to make a MG nest I would have thought?

Heh, I was just thinking how big a pile 100 empty sandbags is - 50 would leave more room in a car!

OK, I'll order 50 of those today.

I'll also order pyro and will get the following:

15 x Mortar Smokes
70 x Mortar Bangs
15 x Mk9 equiv elec dets
8 x Thrown 90" smokes (for SAS/Jed retreats)
3 x Napthas

Thoughts?

Well, the plan is not to have to, but if we do, I want as much cover as possible!
